Seattle's Bread of Life Mission in Pioneer Square is renovating its kitchen next month to replace deteriorating floors and refrigeration units and is asking for the public's help.
"It will increase our cold storage capacity by 50 percent, allowing us to accept large donations of cold and frozen foods," Priscilla Whiteside, the Mission's development manager, said in a statement. "But it's important that we don't interrupt services to our current homeless guests and residents."
The Bread of Life Mission kitchen provides an average 120 meals for its recovery program residents daily. In addition, up to 88 homeless guests staying in the Mission's overnight shelter get breakfast each morning, shelter staff said.
"Though our free meals program is critical to those we serve, this renovation just can't wait," Whiteside said. "We're asking the community to provide funds for discounted meals from area vendors so we can feed our residents each day. We know we can count on our community's support -- in fact, some have already come through."
The Mission created a signup sheet for funding hot meals for residents at this link.
The Mission, a non-profit organization, is also asking for grab-and-go breakfast items such as granola bars, muffins and donuts. To donate cash for breakfast items, donors can go to this link.
The Mission also accepts donations at their location, 97 South Main Street.
